NVQ Level 2/3 school Teaching AssistantsCourse InformationThe course is designed to provide professional development for people who work in school.
In order to be eligible for level 3 you need to be employed as a teaching assistant but it is possible for voluntary assistants to gain the level 2 NVQ.
This would be of great benefit if you are interested in a career as a teaching assistant or wanting career progression as it is a nationally recognised qualification which proves that you have achieved a high level of job competence.
The qualification consists of mandatory and optional units which are linked closely to the work you are doing in school e.g
1. Support pupils learning activities
2. Promote positive behaviour
3. How to keep children safe
4. Support children and young people’s play Course Entry RequirementsYou do not need formal entry qualifications but all candidates will be offered the opportunity to brush up on literacy and numeracy skills, in line with current requirements for teaching assistants. Assessment and AccreditationYou will be assessed through observation of your role in school and will develop a portfolio of work.
The new requirements for September 2008 are designed to reduce the amount of written work produced. There will be more emphasis on how you support teaching and learning in a practical way and professional discussions with an assessor to establish your knowledge of the role.
Support will be offered through workshops, tutorials and work-based assessments. |
