Middlebrough Adult Education service will do everything possible to ensure we provide high quality support to students who require support in their learning, including specific support for disabled students and students with learning difficulties. Support can be offered in the following:

  • Information, Advice and Guidance
  • Financial support (Learning Support Funds)
  • Additional Learning Support

Information Advice and Guidance Service

Our friendly, trained Guidance Advisers are committed to promoting the benefits of learning and are here to help you to overcome any barriers and explore possible training/career routes for the future.

We can offer:

  • Impartial and confidential career advice and guidance
  • Assistance with your choice of course with on-line careers resources such as Adult Directions
  • Assistance with job search, interview techniques, CV writing and other skills that may help you find that all important career
  • Career and Personality Health Check (The Buzz)
  • Advice on funding that may be available for childcare, transport and financial support.

Learning Support Funds (LSF)

The Learning Support Fund is administered by the Learning Support Coordinator. In order to qualify for this support fund you must be in receipt of a means tested benefit and attending a certificated course. You will be asked to provide financial information and produce evidence of income. The fund is available to assist with the following:

  • Childcare costs
  • Equipment
  • Transport
  • Books
  • Course fees and exam costs

Additional Learning Support

Middlesbrough Adult Education service provides a high quality service to support individuals with learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties

We will carry out an assessment of individual needs to establish how we can best support you during your course. The types of support that can be offered are:

  • One to one support tutor
  • Interpreter
  • Communication support
  • Note taker
  • Someone to read exam paper and write down the answers (called amanuensis)
  • Enlarged text papers or Braille
  • Specialist equipment.
