Course Information

The course is for anyone who has an interest in developing their sewing and dressmaking skills. You will become familiar with basic sewing stitches,learn how to use a sewing machine and add a new dimension to your sewing,design skills and knowledge.

What Will I Learn?

The course will cover the following topics:
Types of fabrics
Choosing patterns for your level of skill
Cutting out and laying patterns
Sewing garments or soft furnishings
Finishing seams,darts,button holes and completing garments
Decorating with applique,beads and sequins

Assessment and Accreditation

Open College Network certificates can be achieved through continuous assessment of practical skills and production of a portfolio of evidence.Working towards a certificate is optional,however your progress will be reviewed regularly by the tutor.

What Should I Bring?

You will need:
a notepad
pen and pencil
The tutor will advise you about the selection of a pattern and the appropriate materials you will need for your project.

Sewing machines,scissors,pins,iron and ironing board are available in class.
