Cookery for Beginners

Course Information

This course will equip you with some basic cookery skills and help you to develop a range of basic cookery techniques.The aim is to enable you to prepare simple meals and snacks and give you some fresh ideas to prepare healthy and varied meals.

What Will I Learn?

You will be able to develop some basic competence in a range of cooking skills.You will become familiar with basic cooking equipment and will develop an understanding of the health and safety and food hygiene issues in the kitchen environment.You will be preparing a simple meal each week and recording and reviewing your progress with the tutor.

Assessment and Accreditation

You will have the opportunity to achieve an Open College Certificate in Basic Cookery. All learners will have their progress reviewed each week by the tutor and evidence recorded in a portfolio.

What Should I Bring?

You will need to bring a notebook and a pen, an apron, containers for your dishes and the ingredients. The course tutor will discuss the specific requirements each week.
